I am always searching the internet looking for ways to save money with things that I can make myself and not waste money on them. One such thing that I have come across was a recipe for laundry detergent. I found a recipe that was done by Amanda Soule. If you want the original DIY recipe I have inserted the link to her page below.

Amanda Soule’s Homemade Laundry Powder

I did change some of the items that were used but it works wonders for my family. Give it a try yourself..

Homemade Laundry Powder
(Makes about 5 cups)
2 cups (finely) grated Fels Naptha soap
1 cup borax
1 cup baking soda( I didn’t use this for the 1st few batches)
1 cup washing soda( I use Arm & Hammer)

Directions

Mix everything together, and store in an airtight container. You can adjust the sodas a bit for different types of water, and the amount used per load. I find that by following this recipe it works just fine with machine or even if I choose to hand wash some of my clothe and I use 1/4 cup per load. You don’t have to use that much you can use less or more depending on what you want.
